Spring Time Tree Care Tips
Spring is one of the easiest seasons when it comes to caring for your trees. Just sit back and enjoy!
Ok, so there are a few things you can do, but really, there isn’t any major this you should be doing. In very early spring, before the trees leaf out or start flowering you can prune. In fact, that is the best time of the year to prune. But once the tree starts to break bud and grow for the season, do NOTHING! no pruning, no fertilizing (we’ll cover fertilizing later in another post), just simple enjoyment.
In a dry year or dry winter like we had this past winter, it would be just fine to water your trees a few times. Watering can be tricky, just think low and slow. A low flow rate of water (I like the TreeGator watering bags for young trees) over an extended period of time. The slower the water trickles down throughout the root zone the better chance the tree has of absorbing the water. If its just a bucket of water dumped alongside the tree, more than likely, its going to soak down right past the trees root or be absorbed by the grass.
Of course, if you come across a dead branch and you just can’t stand the sight of it, it can be pruned out. Just make sure you try and avoid wounding and live tissue.
There is a lot more topics about tree care that I would love to keep writing on about, but I can’t spill all the beans at once. So you’ll just have to keep coming back. If you have a question or comment, please share and I’ll try and respond as soon as I can. If you really must know right away, feel free to email me sam@aspenarbo.com anytime.
Happy spring time and enjoy the Green!!
