Custom Fertilizer Built Just For Sioux Falls Soils

Geo-Green Custom Tree Fertilizer

I am always looking for ways that I can improve the delivery of how I care for your trees. I’m also cautious that the products I use and the services I deliver are scientifically accurate and appropriate. That they are within industry ANSI A300 standards. And in the best interest of the health of your trees long term. Too often when people get help with a sick tree or a tree health issue, the services tends to focus on the reactionary portion of the tree. In other words, most other services out there are only going to treat the symptoms of the problem. Not focus on underlying reason why your tree may be sick in the first place. Using fertilizer carefully and cautiously in a plant health care program is critical to plant health.

I have made it a core focus to offer all the necessary science based information on your trees. Then you can make the best decision for you and your trees. Enter in my latest product that I was able to source: Geo Green Fertilizer.

Deciding when to fertilize.

I have never been a huge fan of fertilizing trees. Mostly because they are sick and you CANNOT fertilizer your way out of a health issue. Especially issues where the tree is being attacked by something because of stress. Often times fertilizing a sick tree will only make the tree more stressed and closer to death. Or at best make the tree just look better in the short term, but not actually be healthy.

Yet sometimes I still end up with soil tests that show low nutrient levels needed for healthy tree growth. It took me a while to find just the right blend of fertilizer and quality ingredients that I had confidence in using on my clients trees. And I have done that with Geo Green. I now have a customized blend of high quality slow release nitrogen, potassium, sulfer, along with added humates and citric acid. I carefully selected this exact blend and had the manufacturer change some chemical structures around so it would fit best with most Sioux Falls area soils.

Keys to proper and effective fertilizing.

One big reason trees in our area and in urban sites become stressed and sick is due to the poor quality of soils. That poor quality is often due to the cultural practices we use on our lawns and landscapes and/or the compaction and degradation of the soils from construction or landscaping. Therefore, supplemental fertilizing is sometimes necessary. However, this is not a blanket product that will be sold or recommended on a regular basis without meeting these certain categories first:

  1. Soil test results showing a lack of nitrogen required for optimum tree growth.
  2. Slowed or shortened shoot growth on trees indicating a lack of nutrient availability.
  3. Water trees if dry or in drought conditions. Dry soils during fertilizing can damage roots.
  4. Trees must be free from pest and disease issues.
